April 2024

Beer walk/cycle season is starting! - Update time

  • The former Fraser Mills Fermentation location is now occupied by Train Wreck
  • Deep Cove Brewing is closed (hopefully temporarily)
  • Closure of Studio Brewing (particularly sad for me since it was one of the closest ones to my home)
  • Callister Brewing has closed (gonna miss that one as well). This is now the location of CowDog Brewing.
  • Added Galaxie Brewhouse in White Rock, Beva Brewing in North Van, PoCo Brothers in Port Coquitlam, Way Back in Surrey, and Russell (finally has a tasting room) also in Surrey

Time for a bit of catching up. Added some new breweries:

  • Brave
  • Rewind
  • Brookswood
  • Locality
  • Canuck Empire
I had previously added Braggot, Shaketown, Windfall Cider, and BridgeDeck. I also had to remove some that had sadly closed: Green Leaf, Big Rock, and Big Ridge.

New breweries continue to open! Covid is still slowing down my brewery tasting. I'm hoping for some serious field research this summer! Additions this time round include:

  • Smugglers Trail
  • Studio Brewing (finally another one close to New West!)
  • La Cerveceria Astilleros
  • Settlement Brewing
  • Farmhouse Brewing
  • Bricklayer Brewing

July 2020

It was high time for an update! With all this extra time at home due to Covid, I had little excuse! Plus I'm starting to head out to some brewery patios and I want to make sure I'm ready to visit all the new breweries once Covid is less of risk (hopefully). Speaking of Covid, two of the silver linings in this very dark cloud are all the new patios and the emergence of craft beer home delivery. Both are great ideas and I hope they survive.

  • Another Beer Co (ABC)
  • Bakery Brewing
  • Barnside Brewing
  • Camp Beer Co
  • Farm Country Brewing
  • Five Roads Brewing
  • Streetcar Brewing
  • Tinhouse Brewing
  • Fraser Mills Fermentation
  • House of Funk Brewing
  • Patina Brewing
  • Wildeye Brewing
  • North Paw Brew Co
  • Loud Mouth Brewing
  • Flashback Brewing
  • Taylight Brewing

I removed Doan's Craft, and Chaos and Solace. There are now just over 100 breweries and brew pubs on routebeer.net

This time there was amazing growth in Langely and North Van.

We are a number of years into the huge expanion of craft beer and I still really enjoy visiting new breweries. In addition to the interesting beer, the unique atmosphere of each brewery and the friendly people have made breweries my favourite places to meet with friends.

April 2018

The Golden Age of beer in Vancouver continues with lots of new breweries opening! I've added these new ones to the map:

  • 3 Dogs Brewing in White Rock
  • A-Frame Brewing and Backcountry Brewing both in Squamish
  • Beere Brewing in North Van
  • Chaos & Solace Brewing and Old Yale Brewing both in Chilliwack
  • Coast Mountain Brewing in Whistler
  • East Van Brewing in Vancouver
  • Mariner Brewing in Coquitlam
  • Silver Valley Brewing in Maple Ridge

I also updated the useful links section on the About page.

Recently there were a bunch of media articles on a Skytrain based brewery tour based on work from West Coast Food.

Just a few more additions to the map:

  • Added Britannia Brewing in Richmond and Luppolo Brewing in Vancouver

Once the snow melts, it'll be high time to go for a bike ride to check out some new breweries!

August 2016

It was time for a few more updates to the map content.

  • Added Parkside Brewery in Port Moody (4 breweries on one street now!!), Pat's Brewhouse and Pub, and Strathcona Beer Company in Vancouver.

I'm falling behind in my field research - time for some touring!

March 2016

I've made some updates to the map content. Notably:

  • R&B Brewing is (finally) on the verge of opening a very cool looking tasting room.
  • Added Foamers' Folly in Pitt Meadows, Trading Post in Langley, Field House in Abbotsford, Ravens in Abbotsford, and Mission Springs in Mission.
  • Added placeholders for a soon to open brewery: Faculty and Fuggles&Warlock (More are slated to open this year including: Strathcona, Luppolo, Andina, Sunday Cider, and A-Frame in Squamish).
  • Added the Squamish and Whistler breweries (not sure how much this helps one plan tours, but soon you can do a circuit of two breweries in both towns).

The first version of the Brew Route map is now live!

This project uses the amazing abilities of Google maps to create routes for pedestrians, bicycles, transit, as well as for cars.

The site should be responsive to screen size and work well on computers, tablets or phones.
